Asher cracks us up with the things he says and does. We always say if you need a hug, go find Asher - he'll be happy to oblige!
One physical trait he shares with his siblings, despite not inheriting Beals Syndrome, is that he has quite extraordinarily flat feet. Indeed his feet are more flat than any of the other kids. It doesn't seem to cause him pain or trip him up, so our pediatrician isn't concerned about it, but we try to buy him shoes with excellent arch support and heel cup nevertheless. He does seem to trip less when wearing good shoes.
Asher's entrance to this world was about as easy as a mom could hope for. Completely unmedicated, his birth took just 2 hours and 40 minutes. And for the first 90 minutes of that, I wasn't in any pain. We played Uno on the labor bed. I was 8cm dilated before I felt any pain. I literally kept saying during labor, "This is too easy!" I slept between contractions. Pushed him out in 15 minutes (that was the one hard part though). I felt great afterwards. We were relieved and overjoyed that he was born without Beals Syndrome. He was 8 pounds 13 ounces with the cutest, most kissable chubby cheeks I ever saw.
The easy birth was not indicative of the coming weeks we were about to face, however. Asher had horrendous colic as an infant. From age 2 weeks to 13 weeks, he cried -- err, screamed-at-the-top-of-his-lungs, for hours a day. It was truly the most difficult 2.5 months we've endured. His colic wasn't just fussing... it was really extreme. NOTHING soothed him and we tried everything we could think of... and everything everyone else could think of. Nothing worked. And then... after 13 weeks of age, it was just gone. We had a whole different baby. You'd never know he'd had a day of colic in his life, he was such a happy, content baby.
I won't journal all the years of his life since this blog is focused on Beals Syndrome, but here a few pictures our sweet Asher.
